Description

A simple and delicious recipe for baked apples, perfect for a comforting dessert or holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water or apple cider

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash the apples. Core each apple, leaving the bottom intact to create a well. You can use an apple corer or a small knife.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. If using, stir in the chopped nuts and raisins into the sugar mixture.
  5. Place the cored apples in a baking dish.
  6. Spoon the brown sugar mixture evenly into the core of each apple.
  7. Top the filling in each apple with a few small pieces of butter.
  8. Pour the water or apple cider into the bottom of the baking dish.
  9. Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Baking time will vary depending on the apple variety and size.
  10. Baste the apples with the pan juices halfway through baking if desired.
  11. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, reduce the amount of brown sugar or use a natural sweetener like maple syrup.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat.
  • Ensure the bottom of the apple is intact to hold the filling.
  • Adjust baking time based on your preferred tenderness of the apples.
