Delicious tuna casserole: A 450-Calorie Delight

Description

This classic tuna casserole recipe provides a comforting and easy meal for the family. It features tender egg noodles, flaky tuna, and a creamy sauce, all baked until golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces egg noodles
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 (5 ounce) cans tuna, drained
  • 1 cup frozen peas, thawed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook egg noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and celery; cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat. Stir in salt and pepper.
  7. Add drained tuna, peas, cooked noodles, and 1/2 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese to the sauce. Mix gently to combine.
  8. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  9. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs (if using).
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
  11. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can add a can of cream of mushroom soup for an even creamier sauce.
  • Try adding a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder for extra flavor.
  • For a crunchy topping, crush some potato chips or crackers and sprinkle them over the top.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
