Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix and knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
- Prepare the spicy tomato sauce: In a small saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add tomato sauce, red chili flakes, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Cook for 10-15 minutes to thicken slightly, stirring occasionally.
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.
- Assemble the pizza: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two portions if making two pizzas.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet.
- Spread a thin layer of the spicy tomato sauce over the dough.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly.
- Add pepperoni or sausage (if using), red onion, jalapeño, and bell peppers.
- Add a few basil leaves if desired.
- Bake the pizza: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes.
- Serve: Drizzle with chili oil if extra heat is desired.
- Slice and enjoy your spicy homemade pizza!
