Description

Learn how to make incredibly soft and fluffy homemade dinner rolls. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients like milk and butter for a delicious, buttery flavor perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in melted butter, beaten egg, and salt.
  3. Gradually add flour, about 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. You may not need all the flour.
  4. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough. Divide into 12-16 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.
  7. Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan, about 1 inch apart.
  8. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until nearly doubled.
  9. Preheat oven to 375F (190C).
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Brush tops with softened butter immediately after removing from oven.

Notes

  • For extra softness, ensure your milk is warm but not too hot, as this can kill the yeast.
  • If you don’t have a mixer, kneading by hand is perfectly fine.
  • Adjust flour amount based on humidity and flour type. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
