A flavorful and easy-to-make mackerel curry recipe, perfect for a quick and healthy dinner. This dish features tender mackerel simmered in a rich, spiced coconut milk sauce.

- 1 kg fresh mackerel, cleaned and cut into pieces
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder (or to taste)
- 400 ml coconut milk
- 200 ml water
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a pan or pot over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
- Add the mackerel pieces to the pan and gently coat them with the spice mixture.
- Pour in the coconut milk and water. Bring to a simmer.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the mackerel is cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of green chilies and red chili powder to your spice preference.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or your favorite flatbread.
- You can add other vegetables like tomatoes or bell peppers along with the onions.
