- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 ounces pasta (spaghetti, penne, or your favorite shape)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Optional: Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet or pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess grease.
- Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
- Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat and let it cook for at least 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat.
- Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier sauce, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the other seasonings.
- You can add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms along with the onions.
- This recipe can be made ahead and reheated.
