- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions
- Combine apples, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large pot.
- Cover and cook over medium heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are very tender.
- Mash the apples with a potato masher or fork until desired consistency is reached. For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender or food processor.
- Stir in lemon juice, if using.
- Let cool completely before serving or storing.
