Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Stir in melted butter and egg.
  3. Add salt and gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough. Roll out into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
  7. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Roll up dough tightly from the long side. Pinch seam to seal.
  9. Place seam-side down in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes, or until nearly doubled.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  12. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
